Wonky, sexy, incredible....
You all should read "The Time Traveller's Wife". It is quite possibly one of my favorite books.
Its all about time (if you didn't already guess that from the title) with a jolted reality where the time changes constantly. All the characters are flawed in such a believable and recognisable characters. This book is one that sticks in your head and doesn't and makes you want to time travel (but not like Henry).
Here is what the book says its about (It's hard to describe):
"The Time Traveller's Wife is the story of Clare and Henry, Clare met Henry when she was six and Henry was thirty-six, Henry met Clare for the first time when he was Twenty-eight and Clare was Twenty. Impossible but true, because Henry suffers from a rare condition where his genetic clock periodically resets and he finds himself pulled suddenly into his past or future..."
This book messes with time, which is one of my favorite things to do! How much free will do you really have? How much of your life is determined?
It also has a lot of decent poetry. The prologue begins with this lovely poem:
LOVE AFTER LOVE
The time will come
when, with elation,
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror,
and each will sit and smile at the other's welcome,
and say, sit here. Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine. Give Bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the deperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.
-Derek Walscon
Make me happy, read the book so I can talk to someone about it.
